After a slow start by the Lions, the home team was able to bounce back to defeat Den Helder by a score of 88-72. This was a game of revenge for ProBuild after Den Helder beat them on their home court on December 15, 71-75.
On the Landsmeer side, Katie Bussey scored 23 points, Anete Horlika 13, Molly McDowell and Nadine Boessart each had 12.
For Den Helder Marianne van der Hoek led the scoring with 20. Randell van der Lee followed with 18 connecting on three three pointers, Maaike Klein had 12 and Janiek van Veen had 11.
After a close start to the game, Marianne van der Hoek was able to bring the Den Helder team to a 5-17 lead after 5 minutes. The Lions were not able to get started in this game and with 1 minute to play in the quarter the home team was facing a 13-26 lead. There were able to fight their way back into the game and trail by just 4 points (22-26) before Janiek van Veen nailed a three at the buzzer to give Den Helder a 22-29 lead.
In the second quarter ProBuild was able to catch up and with three minutes to play they took their first lead 34-33. Both teams played even in the last three minutes of the quarter and ProBuild took a 38-37 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Katie Bussey began the second half with 6 points in two to give the Lions some breathing room. Molly McDowell picked up her 4th foul midway through the quarter and was forced to spend a lot of time on the bench but that did not affect the play of the Lions. Thanks to the play of the rest of the team and a three pointer by Anete Horelika the Lions had a 69-58 lead entering the final period.
Kim Hartman and Horelika played strong in the fourth quarter and with three minutes to play the lions had a 16 point lead, 74-58. Den Helder couldn’t do much in the end and the home team walked away with a 88-72 win.
