Saturday evening De Wit-Grasshoppers will travel to Landsmeer to take on the Lions in the first home competition game at the ICL. ProBuild started the season by defeating CTO Amsterdam 85-77 last weekend.
There were high expectations for the first competition game after the Lions had three impressive games leading up to the game against CTO. However, the coaching staff was not satisfied with how the game was played. CTO outrebounded ProBuild 56-36 and 24 of those rebounds came on the offensive end of the court.
On a positive note, the Lions were able to put 85 points on the board so scoring doesn’t seem to be an issue for this season. After the game the always critical Coach Lakner felt his team was not good enough and a step too slow but realized perfection can not be met in every game.
The upcoming opponent from Katwijk was not so fortunate in their first game. They came away with a home loss against Challenge Sport Rotterdam 54-67. The end score is closer than the game was played with the CSBR building a 22 point lead going into the fourth quarter.
The Grasshoppers have high expectations this season after the off season additions of ex-ProBuild player Marlous Nieuwveen and ex-Challenge Sport player Natalie van den Adel. They are joining other strong veteran players who have already been in Katwijk in previous seasons as well as a few youth players.
Both teams are a combination of veteran and youth players so Saturday’s matchup should be entertaining.
The game is in Landsmeer and begins at 7:30pm.
