ProBuild Puts Game Out of Reach in First Quarter

ProBuild began the game against Rotterdam Saturday night on a role. The visiting team connected on seven three pointers in the first 10 minutes of play, five of them from Katie Bussey. By the end of the quarter the score was 12-28 and everyone in the gym was shocked.

Katie Bussey ended with 30 points (7 three pointers), Molly McDowell followed with 19 and Kim Hartman added 10.

For Challenge Sports Zara Butter led the scoring with 18, Leonie Kooij 12 and Addie Micir ended with 11.

Out of the starting blocks Katie Bussey hit 2 three pointers in a row forcing the Rotterdam coach to take a quick timeout. Two minutes, two three pointers and trailing 5-19 Joost van Rangelrooy had no choice but to take another timeout to try to put a stop to ProBuilds unbelievable start. Immediately following the timeout Lisa van den Adel scored and Butter hit a three pointer. But the run didn’t last long for the home team. First, Bussey connected on her 5th three pointer and then Molly McDowell hit a long three at the buzzer to give the Lions a 12-28 lead after one quarter.

The beginning of the second quarter was slow but with 6 minutes to go, Bussey hit her 6th three pointer and ProBuild had a few more scores to bring the score quickly to 16-33 with five minutes to play before halftime. Rotterdam was able to put together a scoring run in the last five minutes and cut the lead to 10 points, 29-39.

In the third quarter the Lions maintained a 10 point lead for the majority of the time. Butter made two scores in a row and with 5 minutes on the clock in was and 8 point lead. Immediately following, Kim Hartman and Nadine Boesaart scored for ProBuild for a 38-51 lead with 3 minutes to play. To end the quarter, Linda Appers scored 5 straight points and the score going into the last quarter was 45-53.

Rotterdam didn’t throw in the towel and continued to fight in the last quarter. Butter led her team on a run and with seven minutes to play the home team had cut the lead to 51-57. This is as close as they would get. A flagrant foul was committed on Anete Horelike who converted two free throws and on the possession that followed Bussey connected on the 7th three pointer of the game. That was enough to secure the win for ProBuild and they left Rotterdam with a 59-70 win.
