ProBuild Knocks Off Challenge Sports in First Meeting

Saturday night ProBuild Lions defeated Challenge Sports Binnenland Rotterdam 60-51. These two teams are side by side in the standings along with De Wit Grasshoppers. All three teams have one loss this season.

Both teams played below their ability level, but ProBuild was able to maintain at least a 10 point lead most of the second half. Rotterdam played without Leonie Kooij. Also, their new American Addie Micir was unable to play because she has not obtained her player card.

For ProBuild, Sanne van Dongen and Tesse de Bie did not play.

Nadine Boesaart, 11 points and 6 rebounds

Molly McDowell and Anete Horelika scored 12 points and Katie Bussey and Nadine Boesaart contributed 11. Horelika was one rebound short of a double-double. Boesaart had 6 rebounds and was named player of the game for her efforts.

After the game Coach Lakner praised Boesaarts performance but was disappointed in the way his team played. “We were sloppy and undisciplined. At this time in the competition we have to stick to the game plan or things go wrong. Binnenland didn’t play well tonight either. Otherwise we would have lost our second home game this season.”
After just 3 minutes, Lakner had all of his starters on the bench. “Same as last week, we started the game not focused and that bothers me. In these cases I would rather let the young players play.”

The Lions were behind 8-11 before Zera Butter knocked down 2 three points to extend the Challenge Sport lead to 8-17 at the end of the first quarter.

The starting five woke up in the second quarter and were ready to work. Molly McDowell scored 6 points to bring the Lions back into the game at 16-17. Anete Horelika scored to give ProBuild their first lead at 18-17. Both teams put together a run before the break but the Lions were able to hold on to their lead going into the half, 27-26.

In the third quarter, thanks to a few important rebounds and 7 straight points from Nadine Boesaart, the Lions were able to build a 10 point lead, 40-30. Challenge Sport still had some fight in them but scores from Beau Baars, Ayla Simdorn and Kim Hartman helped keep the lead for the Lions.

In the fourth quarter ProBuild built a 58-42 lead but in the last three minutes of the game Rotterdam was able to cut into the lead and the game ended in a 9 point win for the Lions.

Next game for the Lions is this Saturday in Den Helder at 7pm.
